"Did That Even Happen"

For the crit, I decided to expand on what I did during the Photography and Time Based Media workshop by filming and editing a short music video, using music produced by me on Garage Band.

I filmed me and my partner hanging out in Shoreditch, I tried to capture as much candid footage as I could. I didn't have strong intentions with this project, it was done more for enjoyment; I just wanted a to make something the immersed people, something that was cool, and I succeeded. The most common critique / response I got was about the vibe of the video, the way that music and video, paired with how it'd edited really encapsulates the feeling of being young in London. It's fast paced and intimate yet viewers are distanced from the subjects in the video - the lighting and high exposure create a barrier that prevents you from invading this private space. As much as you're immersed, you still can't fully connect with the subjects of the video. The intimacy between the subjects (me and my partner) is increased by the fact that it's filmed by us both, there is no third party involved.
